Year 3-6 Art Project with Community Artist Fiona Smith
19th January 2012
Community Artist Fiona Smith is working with pupils of St. James school and with other community groups to produce a large circular painted sign, and a number of small, vibrant and bold painted discs to be installed in the Hatton Hilltop Sanctuary and Heaton Norris Park to complement the area.
Her work with St. James pupils will consist of 4 art workshops to make designs inspired by the work of artist Michael Craig Martin. The style will be simple, bold and colourful, concentrating on size, scale and composition. The theme will be nature, seasons, birds, flora, fauna and some chosen text. Children will have the chance of making their own painted disc from cardboard as well as helping to paint and complete the actual art boards for installation in the park.
The photographs show pupils sharing their work after the first session with Fiona.
